UBE2E2 also known as UBC2 or UBCH8 functions as an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme involved in the ubiquitination pathway. It has a mass of approximately 25 kDa. This enzyme catalyzes the transfer of ubiquitin from an E1 activating enzyme to a substrate protein marking it for degradation by the proteasome or other cellular processes like DNA repair or cell cycle regulation. UBE2E2 is expressed in various tissues with significant levels found in the liver and pancreas indicating its broad functional importance within the cell.
