Biological function summary
UBE2Z is involved in protein degradation and regulation of protein homeostasis. It is an important part of the ubiquitin-proteasome system ensuring damaged or misfolded proteins are marked for degradation. UBE2Z can function independently or in conjunction with multi-protein complexes. It has an important role in regulating cellular processes like cell cycle progression DNA repair and response to stress. Additionally it contributes to the regulation of several cellular pathways through these processes.
Pathways
UBE2Z is significantly involved in the protein ubiquitination pathway and cellular response to oxidative stress. In the protein ubiquitination pathway it interacts with various E3 ligases influencing protein turnover. Notably it interacts with the KEAP1 pathway which regulates the degradation of NRF2 a transcription factor involved in antioxidative responses. UBE2Z’s association with these pathways links it to the modulation of protein stability and cellular sensitivity to oxidative damage.
