Supplementary information

UTP3 also known as Utp3p is a component of the small subunit processome involved in ribosome biogenesis. This protein has a mass of approximately 65 kDa and mainly localizes in the nucleolus of eukaryotic cells. UTP3 plays an important role in the early steps of 18S rRNA processing as part of the preribosomal particle assembly. This early involvement is essential for the production of the small ribosomal subunit which impacts protein synthesis.
Biological function summary

UTP3 engages in ribosome assembly interacting with other proteins within the small subunit (SSU) processome complex. This complex processes pre-rRNA into mature rRNA critical for ribosome function. UTP3's role ensures the accuracy and efficiency of rRNA folding and processing which is essential for the assembly of functional ribosomal units in eukaryotic cells.

Pathways

UTP3 is highly involved in the ribosome biogenesis pathway. This pathway is critical for cell growth and proliferation as it directly affects translation and protein synthesis. UTP3 associates with other SSU processome proteins like UTP4 and UTP15 facilitating pre-rRNA processing and ribosome assembly. These interactions highlight UTP3's importance in maintaining the integrity of the protein synthesis machinery.

Abnormalities in UTP3 function can relate to ribosomopathies and cancer. Disruptions in ribosome biogenesis involving proteins like UTP3 can lead to improper cell growth and proliferation often noted in cancers. Additionally any aberration in its interaction with other nucleolar proteins like UTP4 may further impact disease manifestation reflecting UTP3's significance in maintaining cellular homeostasis.

Target data

Essential for gene silencing : has a role in the structure of silenced chromatin. Plays a role in the developing brain (By similarity). Part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, first precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. During the assembly of the SSU processome in the nucleolus, many ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone and ribosomal proteins associate with the nascent pre-rRNA and work in concert to generate RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements and cleavage as well as targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome (PubMed : 34516797).
