WD repeat domain 3 also known as WDR3 is a protein consisting of a series of WD repeat motifs. The protein weighs approximately 67 kDa and is mainly expressed in multiple tissues including the heart lung and liver. Mechanically WDR3 serves as a component of ribosomal biosynthesis. It interacts with other proteins to assist the assembly of ribosomal subunits participating in the nucleolar processing of pre-18S ribosomal RNA.
Biological function summary

WDR3 plays an essential role in the formation and maturity of ribosomes. It forms part of the ribonucleoprotein complex aiding in the production of ribosomal RNA which is critical for protein synthesis. Through its interaction with other proteins WDR3 facilitates the transport and processing of key nucleolar components maintaining cellular function. Its presence in the nucleolus suggests its involvement in cell growth and division linking it to fundamental cellular processes.

Part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, first precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. During the assembly of the SSU processome in the nucleolus, many ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone and ribosomal proteins associate with the nascent pre-rRNA and work in concert to generate RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements and cleavage as well as targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome.
