YARS2 also known as TyrRS is a mitochondrial tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase with a molecular mass of approximately 55 kDa. It catalyzes the attachment of tyrosine to its corresponding tRNA a fundamental step for protein synthesis within mitochondria. YARS2 is expressed in various tissues with notable levels in those requiring high mitochondrial activity. It ensures the correct translation of mitochondrial genes by ensuring the specific aminoacylation of tRNA.
Biological function summary

YARS2 plays an essential role in mitochondrial protein biosynthesis a process vital for cellular energy production. As part of the group of aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases it is required for proper mitochondrial function and cellular respiration. Mitochondrial dysfunction due to errors in this enzyme can disrupt cellular homeostasis and energy metabolism leading to severe outcomes.
