Supplementary information

The protein YL1 also known as Tyrosine-tubulin ligase-like family member 5 (TUBE1) plays an important role in regulating microtubule dynamics. YL1 has a molecular mass of approximately 14 kDa. It predominantly expresses in cells with high microtubule activity such as neural tissues and dividing cells. The protein actively binds to tubulin which is an essential component of the microtubule network within the cell. This binding modifies tubulin dynamics impacting cell shape and intracellular transport.
Biological function summary

YL1 influences the stability and organization of microtubules within the cellular cytoskeleton. It is part of a functional complex that involves tubulin which facilitates proper microtubule attachment and detachment during cell division. By modulating microtubule filament properties YL1 ensures accurate chromosome segregation contributing to the faithful completion of mitosis and meiosis.

Pathways

YL1 takes part in important cellular processes related to the regulation of cytoskeleton dynamics and cell cycle progression. It actively participates in the mitotic spindle assembly pathway where it cooperates with proteins such as TPX2 and Aurora A kinase. Additionally YL1 associates with the Rho GTPase signaling pathway which affects cytoskeletal reorganization and cell morphology linking to proteins like RhoA and Rac1 vital for actin and microtubule coordination.

YL1 has shown implications in conditions such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Dysregulation of YL1 and associated pathways may contribute to uncontrolled cell proliferation and tumor development with connections to proteins like p53 and BRCA1. In neurodegenerative disorders abnormal YL1 function might affect neuronal microtubule integrity associating it with proteins such as tau which is involved in tauopathies like Alzheimer's disease.

Target data

Deposition-and-exchange histone chaperone specific for H2AZ1, specifically chaperones H2AZ1 and deposits it into nucleosomes. As component of the SRCAP complex, mediates the ATP-dependent exchange of histone H2AZ1/H2B dimers for nucleosomal H2A/H2B, leading to transcriptional regulation of selected genes by chromatin remodeling.
