Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

ZC3H12B also known as MCPIP2 is a ribonuclease enzyme with a known mass of approximately 94 kDa. It has a zinc finger CCCH-type domain that allows it to bind RNA. ZC3H12B is expressed in various tissues with higher levels observed in the heart placenta and skeletal muscle. This protein functions mechanically by degrading mRNA regulating the stability and turnover of specific transcripts.
Biological function summary

The protein acts as a post-transcriptional regulator impacting gene expression at the RNA level. ZC3H12B is not known to be part of a larger complex but interacts with other molecules to mediate its functions. It influences immune responses and inflammatory processes by controlling cytokine mRNA decay suggesting a role in modulating immune homeostasis.

Pathways

ZC3H12B integrates into key signaling cascades influencing inflammation and immune regulation. It functions in the interleukin-6 (IL-6) signaling pathway affecting inflammation responses. ZC3H12B also relates to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) pathway sharing activities with proteins like ZC3H12A and Regnase-1 which similarly impact cytokine mRNA stability and turnover.

ZC3H12B holds relevance in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus both involving dysregulated immune responses. In rheumatoid arthritis ZC3H12B influences inflammation by regulating cytokine mRNA similar to its homolog ZC3H12A. In lupus disturbances in ZC3H12B expression or function could potentially alter cytokine profiles linking it to disease pathogenesis.
