Western blot - Anti-Zhangfei antibody (AB28700)
In the literature Zhangfei is also referred to as SMILE (SHP-interacting leucine zipper protein). The SMILE gene generates two isoforms, SMILE-L (long isoform of SMILE, 50–60 kDa) and SMILE-S (short isoform of SMILE, 40 kDa), and ab28700 predominantly recognizes the SMILE-L form.

Biological function summary
This transcription factor regulates the expression of genes important for immune responses and neuronal functions. It forms part of complexes that modulate transcriptional repression often working with corepressors like N-CoR or SMRT. Zhangfei has a role in shaping developmental processes by influencing gene expression in specific lineages providing guidance during cell differentiation.
Pathways
Zhangfei influences gene regulation pathways that encompass the NF-kB and TGF-beta signaling. It interacts with proteins such as IKKs in the NF-kB pathway to modulate inflammation responses. In the TGF-beta pathway Zhangfei plays a role in cellular differentiation processes connecting with proteins like Smad3 to ensure proper signal transduction and output.
