ZNF292 also known as Zinc Finger Protein 292 is a zinc finger protein involved in transcriptional regulation. It has a molecular mass of approximately 300 kDa. This protein regulates gene expression by binding to DNA sequences. Generally you find ZNF292 expressed in various tissues with significant levels in the brain and liver. Its complex structure allows it to interact with diverse DNA motifs enabling versatile roles in cellular processes.
Biological function summary

The function of ZNF292 involves modulation of cell growth and differentiation. This protein interacts with other transcription factors and coregulatory molecules to influence gene expression patterns. Although not strictly part of a specific protein complex some reports suggest its involvement with general transcription machinery. ZNF292 plays an important role in development and normal cellular functions by modulating critical genes involved in growth pathways.

Pathways

ZNF292 engages in essential signaling cascades. It is notably linked to the Wnt and MAPK pathways. In the Wnt pathway ZNF292 acts alongside proteins like β-catenin to regulate the transcription of target genes involved in cellular proliferation. Within the MAPK pathway its interactions influence cell cycle regulation and response to external stimuli impacting proteins like MEK and ERK pivotal in transducing extracellular signals.

Certain aberrations in ZNF292 function associate with cancer and neurological disorders. In several types of cancer altered expression or mutations of ZNF292 disrupt normal transcriptional control contributing to tumorigenesis. Additionally ZNF292 shows connections to neurodevelopmental disorders potentially through disrupted interactions with proteins such as DYRK1A well-known for their roles in brain development. These associations highlight ZNF292 as a relevant target for therapeutic exploration in these conditions.
