Activity summary

ZNF295 also known as zinc finger protein 295 is a transcription factor that contains a zinc finger domain enabling interaction with DNA. It has an approximate mass of 115 kDa. ZNF295 is expressed in various tissues including brain liver and heart where it may control gene expression by binding specific DNA sequences. Its role in gene regulation indicates a significant impact on cellular processes influencing development and cellular differentiation.

Biological function summary

This transcription factor interacts with other proteins to modulate gene expression by forming complexes. It participates in regulating genes involved in cell growth and development. The zinc finger domain allows ZNF295 to bind DNA acting as a switch to activate or repress transcription. Through its activity it contributes to maintaining normal cellular function and responding to environmental changes which is essential for organismal homeostasis.

Pathways

ZNF295 plays roles in key signaling pathways such as the cell growth and differentiation pathways. It interacts with other transcription factors and proteins including members of the p53 family which are important in managing cell cycle and apoptosis. This involvement positions ZNF295 as a potential regulator of various cellular activities modulating the balance between cell survival and programmed cell death.

Associated diseases and disorders

Mutations and altered expression of ZNF295 have connections to cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders. Disruptions in its function can lead to abnormal cell proliferation and differentiation conditions often observed in cancers. In neurodevelopmental disorders ZNF295 may play a role alongside proteins such as MECP2 in brain development anomalies. Understanding its contributions to these diseases allows for the exploration of targeted therapies that may modify its activity.
