Hepatotoxicity and drug-induced liver injury
Due to the liver's role in processing and metabolizing most drugs, drug-induced liver injury (DILI) represents one of the most prevalent causes of drug attrition or marketing withdrawal. The early identification of DILI-causing compounds is crucial for preventing or reducing attrition rates.
Our ELISA kits and assays for assessing hepatotoxicity (liver toxicity) allow for efficient measurement of key markers, such as Albumin, Alanine Transaminase (ALT), Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST), Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT), and bilirubin. For quantification purposes, our SimpleStep ELISA kits yield results within 90 minutes and are available in a 384-well format for increased throughput. Our assay kits, which have been utilized in numerous publications, offer the flexibility to order individual components.
SimpleStep ELISA® kits
SimpleStep ELISA® kits are sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) designed for optimal simplicity and efficacy. The single-wash protocol enables data generation in 90 minutes.
Our human Albumin, Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT), and Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) ELISA kits have been validated in a 384-well format utilizing the same expeditious and straightforward one-wash protocol as our standard 96-well kits, while requiring only one-quarter of the volume necessary for a standard 96-well kit.
Albumin, AST, and ALT SimpleStep® ELISA kits are also available for murine and rat samples.
Key benefits of SimpleStep ELISA®:
- Easy standardized 90-minute protocol across all kits
- Semi-homogenous: only one wash
- Consistency of results with low inter and intra-variability
- Each kit uses our high-quality recombinant monoclonal antibodies for high sensitivity and reproducibility
- Adaptable in a 384-well plate format and can be used with automated liquid handling systems

Drug metabolism and CYP reaction phenotyping
Cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes are a family of enzymes that play a crucial role in the metabolism of drugs, toxins, and other substances in the body. CYP reaction phenotyping helps identify which specific CYP enzymes are involved in the metabolism of a particular drug or compound.
Using Abcam’s collection of assay kits you can understand which CYP enzymes are responsible for metabolizing a drug or candidate and gain insights into pharmacokinetics, drug-drug interactions and dose response.
Key benefits of our drug metabolism and CYP assays:
- Easy-to-use protocols
- No-wash assays
- Fast results
- Individual components available on request
