Phosphorylated on tyrosines by SRC.
CASS4 also known as Cas scaffolding protein family member 4 or HEF1-L is involved in cellular signaling processes. It weighs approximately 78 kDa and is expressed in a variety of tissues including the brain lung and placenta. CASS4 participates in focal adhesion and acts as an adapter protein which interacts with other proteins to signal during changes in cell shape and mobility.
CASS4 acts in cell signaling by connecting integrins to the actin cytoskeleton. It is a part of the CAS protein family and functions within this complex to relay signals from the cell membrane to the interior. It influences cellular functions like adhesion migration and proliferation which are important for maintaining cellular architecture and responding to extracellular stimuli.
CASS4 engages in the focal adhesion and integrin signaling pathways. It associates with proteins like E-cadherin and FAK facilitating their functioning in these pathways. CASS4's interaction helps control signals that regulate actin cytoskeleton reorganization and cellular responses to the extracellular environment.
CASS4 has associations with cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Alterations in CASS4 expression or function may contribute to tumor progression and metastasis potentially interacting with proteins such as p130Cas. In Alzheimer's disease changes in CASS4 could influence signaling pathways and affect neural cell functions sometimes relating to proteins like tau which are linked to neurodegenerative markers.
