The SARS-CoV-2 Spike Glycoprotein S2 plays an important role in the viral infectivity process. It is part of a trimeric spike protein complex which undergoes a conformational shift during host cell entry. The S2 subunit specifically triggers the fusion process following receptor binding of another component the S1 subunit.
