Supplementary information

GAPR-1 also known as Golgi-associated plant pathogenesis-related protein 1 is a protein with a molecular mass of approximately 17 kDa. It is expressed in several tissues with high levels in the brain and myeloid cells. Mechanically GAPR-1 plays a role in the regulation of membrane dynamics and protein-protein interactions at the Golgi apparatus. It contains a C-terminal cysteine-rich domain which is important for its localization and function.
Biological function summary

GAPR-1 influences cellular processes related to the Golgi apparatus. It is not part of a large protein complex but acts independently to modulate lipid signaling and membrane trafficking. GAPR-1 impacts the intracellular transport and secretion of proteins contributing to cellular homeostasis and response to stress. It also affects the organization of Golgi membranes which is vital for maintaining Golgi structure and function.

Pathways

GAPR-1 operates in the phosphoinositide signaling pathway which is integral for various cellular processes like growth survival and trafficking. It has been linked to the modulation of phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate levels influencing Golgi dynamics. Additionally GAPR-1 interacts with proteins such as protein kinase C which further connects it to cellular pathways involving signal transduction.

GAPR-1 has connections to neurodegenerative diseases and immune system disorders. Its expression impacts lipid metabolism and membrane trafficking important factors in the development of Alzheimer's disease where abnormal protein aggregation occurs. GAPR-1 is also related to autoimmune conditions through its role in immune cell function and distribution. Its interaction with proteins involved in these diseases suggests its possible role as a therapeutic target.
