Biological function summary
GLIS1 influences various developmental processes and cellular functions. It does not appear as a part of a larger complex but instead functions independently to regulate genes involved in maintaining and establishing cellular identity. Through its activity it directly impacts cell fate decisions during early development making it important for stem cell biology. GLIS1 can activate genes that are essential for pluripotency and stimulate the reprogramming of somatic cells back into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
