The H-Ras (G12V) protein also known more commonly as HRas is a small GTPase with a molecular mass of approximately 21 kDa. It is part of the Ras protein family and is usually present in the plasma membrane of a variety of cells playing an important role in intracellular signal transduction. When bound to GTP HRas is active; conversely when bound to GDP it is inactive. The G12V mutation signals a substitution of glycine with valine at the twelfth position rendering HRas constitutively active meaning it stays in the GTP-bound state longer.
