Biological function summary
As part of the chromatin remodeling complex ING1 contributes to the regulation of gene expression by promoting histone acetylation. It affects the cellular response to stress and helps maintain genomic stability. Through interactions with other proteins in the complex ING1 influences cell cycle checkpoints and can induce apoptosis when DNA damage is irreparable.
Pathways
Several important cellular signaling cascades involve ING1. Notably it plays a role in the p53 signaling pathway where it collaborates with the tumor protein p53 to enhance transcriptional activation of downstream genes associated with growth arrest and apoptosis. Additionally ING1 participates in the PI3K/AKT pathway influencing cell survival and metabolism by modulating PI3K-mediated phosphorylation events.
