General info
Function
Histone demethylase that demethylates trimethylated 'Lys-9' of histone H3 into monomethylated form, thereby playing a central role in histone code (PubMed : 21914792, PubMed : 23451023). Also demethylates trimethylated 'Lys-56' of histone H3 (H3K9me3) to generate the monomethylated state (H3K56me1) (PubMed : 23451023).
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the JHDM3 histone demethylase family.
