Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

The Leukocyte-Associated Immunoglobulin-like Receptor 2 (LAIR2) also known as CD306 is a soluble protein with a mass of approximately 15.2 kDa. It can be found in serum where immune system regulation occurs. Structurally LAIR2 shares similarities with LAIR1 a membrane-bound protein although LAIR2 lacks a transmembrane domain. It acts by sequestering ligands that would interact with LAIR1 thereby modulating the immune system response.
Biological function summary

LAIR2 regulates immune cell function by inhibiting collagen-induced signaling that typically activates immune responses. LAIR2 functions independently without forming a complex with other cell surface receptors or signaling molecules. By binding to collagens this protein limits unnecessary immune activation acting as a checkpoint in immune regulation and maintaining tolerance.

Pathways

Multiple immune regulatory pathways involve LAIR2 including the collagen signaling pathway that modulates immune cell activity. LAIR2 is related to LAIR1 since they both respond to collagen interactions in the immune system. Disruption in these pathways may affect immune homeostasis linking LAIR2 directly to collagen-mediated modulation.

Disturbances in LAIR2 expression have links with autoimmune disorders and chronic inflammatory conditions. The protein is of particular interest in studies on systemic lupus erythematosus where altered LAIR2 levels can influence disease progression. Additionally LAIR2 connections with LAIR1 suggest potential implications in fibrotic diseases identifying it as a therapeutic target for modulating immune responses.
