MESDC1 also known as Mesoderm Development Candidate 1 functions as a chaperone involved in protein folding and quality control within the endoplasmic reticulum. This protein has a molecular mass of approximately 24 kDa. Researchers have observed MESDC1 expression in various tissues and it plays an important role in cellular development and maintenance. It takes part in ensuring correct protein conformation preventing aggregation and assisting in the stabilization of proteins.

Biological function summary

MESDC1 helps facilitate the proper assembly and transport of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR). While it is not part of a complex itself it interacts with developing lipoprotein receptors aiding their maturation and functional activity.
