MOBKL2B also known as MOB2 is a protein with a molecular mass of approximately 26 kDa. It is expressed in various tissues throughout the body including the brain and liver. Mechanically MOBKL2B functions as a kinase activator playing a critical role in regulating cellular processes such as cell growth and division by interacting with and modulating the activity of NDR kinases.
This protein plays an important role in maintaining cellular homeostasis. It forms part of a complex with other proteins such as the MST-NDR signaling module to influence cell proliferation and survival. By modulating kinase activities MOBKL2B contributes to the regulation of apoptosis and other cell-cycle events.
MOBKL2B participates in significant signaling pathways including the Hippo pathway which controls organ size by regulating cell proliferation and apoptosis. In this pathway MOBKL2B interacts with proteins like LATS1/2 kinases. MOBKL2B also has associations with the JNK signaling pathway where it influences stress responses and developmental processes.
MOBKL2B is relevant to cancer and neurodegenerative conditions. Altered expression or function of MOBKL2B can contribute to uncontrolled cell growth in cancers potentially through dysregulation of NDR kinases. In neurodegeneration its interaction with proteins such as tau might play a role in disease progression linking MOBKL2B to disorders like Alzheimer’s disease.
