Product details

While the standard is the same as the one provided in the corresponding SimpleStep ELISA Kit, it cannot be treated as the consumable provided with our SimpleStep ELISA Kit due to differences in its concentration calibration.

Abcam guarantee that this protein standard is suitable for use in a sandwich ELISA. Individual results may vary due to differences in technique, laboratory equipment, buffers, and other experimental factors. The detection range provided for this protein standard is based on initial sandwich ELISA validation data.

The protein concentration is the concentration after validation on our sandwich ELISA platform. This Standard protein is guaranteed to work with our Capture and Detector antibodies in sELISA. Please contact our Scientific Support team to know which antibody pair is suitable for this protein.

Supplementary information

MSP-1 also known as Merozoite Surface Protein 1 is an important protein in the lifecycle of the Plasmodium parasite which causes malaria. It weighs approximately 190 kDa. MSP-1 localizes on the surface of the merozoite a stage in the parasite's lifecycle where it invades red blood cells. This protein undergoes processing during parasite maturation resulting in several fragments which play roles in the invasion of host cells.
Biological function summary

MSP-1 plays an essential role in the malaria parasite's ability to invade host cells. This protein is part of a larger complex located on the merozoite's surface interacting with both the host's cell and other merozoite proteins. It establishes interactions that assist in the attachment and entry of the merozoite into red blood cells. These interactions are critical for the parasite’s survival and proliferation within the host.

Pathways

MSP-1 is a component of the invasion machinery pathway in Plasmodium species. This pathway is vital for the parasite's invasion of erythrocytes. MSP-1 works closely with other proteins like AMA1 (Apical Membrane Antigen 1) within this pathway to facilitate the invasion process. Its function is connected to the way the parasite manages to evade host immune responses ensuring successful infection and replication.

MSP-1 relates closely to malaria a significant global health challenge caused by Plasmodium parasites. The protein is a major target for vaccine development because of its critical role in erythrocyte invasion. Furthermore MSP-1 interacts with protein PfEMP1 (Plasmodium falciparum Erythrocyte Membrane Protein 1) which is involved in the sequestration of infected erythrocytes leading to complications like cerebral malaria. Understanding these interactions assists in the development of therapeutic strategies to combat malaria effectively.
