Biological function summary
NUBP2 associates with the cytosolic iron-sulfur assembly (CIA) complex. This complex is essential for the maturation of iron-sulfur clusters which are important for the function of a wide range of enzymes. By contributing to this maturation NUBP2 supports enzymatic activities that are necessary for the stability and function of proteins involved in DNA synthesis and repair as well as mitochondrial energy metabolism.
Pathways
NUBP2 participates in the cytosolic iron-sulfur protein assembly pathway. This pathway is critical for biogenesis of iron-sulfur clusters used in various cellular processes. NUBP2 functions alongside other CIA components such as NUBP1 and CIAPIN1. By facilitating the transfer of iron-sulfur clusters to target apoproteins NUBP2 ensures the proper function of enzymes involved in processes like DNA repair and metabolic regulation.

General info
Function
Component of the cytosolic iron-sulfur (Fe/S) protein assembly (CIA) machinery. Required for maturation of extramitochondrial Fe-S proteins. The NUBP1-NUBP2 heterotetramer forms a Fe-S scaffold complex, mediating the de novo assembly of an Fe-S cluster and its transfer to target apoproteins. Negatively regulates cilium formation and structure.
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the Mrp/NBP35 ATP-binding proteins family. NUBP2/CFD1 subfamily.
