Supplementary information

OVCA2 is also known as Ovarian Carcinoma Amplified Transcript 2 or OVCA 2. This protein has a molecular mass of approximately 28 kDa. It is expressed mainly in the ovary as well as the heart placenta liver and to a lesser extent in the lung and pancreas. Mechanically OVCA2 protein functions as a potential prolyl isomerase suggesting an involvement in protein folding process which impacts stability and function of its substrates.
Biological function summary

OVCA2 impacts cellular processes by modulating protein dynamics and stability. Through its isomerase activity it contributes to proper protein folding and maintenance. It participates in cellular stress response by ensuring proteins maintain their correct conformation under changing conditions. There is limited evidence that OVCA2 functions alone and it may interact with other molecular chaperones or be part of a protein complex although this is not definitively established yet.

Pathways

OVCA2 is likely involved in protein quality control mechanisms essential for cellular homeostasis. It intersects with the protein folding and ubiquitin-proteasome pathways which are critical for managing improperly folded proteins. Related proteins such as FKBP4 and cyclophilins might operate along with OVCA2 to regulate protein folding and degradation although specific interaction pathways still require further elucidation.

OVCA2 has associations with certain cancers notably ovarian carcinoma. Aberrant expression or mutations might impact the protein's ability to maintain proper protein folding potentially contributing to tumorigenesis. Connections with proteins like p53 which is involved in cancer pathways suggest that OVCA2's dysfunction could have roles in impaired regulatory pathways leading to cancer development. Further research is necessary to clarify these relationships more thoroughly.
