Biological function summary
This protein plays a critical role in the modulation of phototransduction pathways in the retina. It exists as part of a complex with the G protein beta subunit influencing the regulation of vision and light response. PDCL also interacts with cytosolic chaperonin CCT highlighting its role in protein folding. Through these interactions PDCL affects signal transduction processes in neuronal tissues.
Pathways
PDCL integrates into the phototransduction and G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling pathways. Its collaboration with the beta subunit of G proteins highlights its importance in these pathways. Furthermore PDCL works alongside proteins like Gbetaγ enhancing our understanding of the regulation mechanisms in signal transduction.

General info
Function
Acts as a positive regulator of hedgehog signaling and regulates ciliary function.. Isoform 1. Functions as a co-chaperone for CCT in the assembly of heterotrimeric G protein complexes, facilitates the assembly of both Gbeta-Ggamma and RGS-Gbeta5 heterodimers.. Isoform 2. Acts as a negative regulator of heterotrimeric G proteins assembly by trapping the preloaded G beta subunits inside the CCT chaperonin.
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the phosducin family.
