Biological function summary
PDCL3 plays an important role in regulating protein activity associated with GTP-binding proteins. It is part of a complex system that ensures the proper folding of G protein subunits. This activity helps maintain cellular signaling pathways contributing to cellular homeostasis. PDCL3's function as a modulator of protein folding makes it an able participant in the regulation of intracellular processes.
Pathways
PDCL3 takes part in key molecular pathways such as the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling pathway. In this pathway PDCL3 interacts with proteins like Gβγ subunits to maintain correct protein conformation and functionality. This interaction allows for the effective transmission of signals from cell surface receptors to intracellular targets facilitating diverse cellular responses.

General info
Function
Acts as a chaperone for the angiogenic VEGF receptor KDR/VEGFR2, increasing its abundance by inhibiting its ubiquitination and degradation (PubMed : 23792958, PubMed : 26059764). Inhibits the folding activity of the chaperonin-containing T-complex (CCT) which leads to inhibition of cytoskeletal actin folding (PubMed : 17429077). Acts as a chaperone during heat shock alongside HSP90 and HSP40/70 chaperone complexes (By similarity). Modulates the activation of caspases during apoptosis (PubMed : 15371430).
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the phosducin family.
Post-translational modifications
N-terminal methionine acetylation destabilizes the protein.
