Biological function summary
RPP20 significantly contributes to RNA processing and is a part of the ribonucleoprotein complex known as RNase P. RNase P a well-characterized ribonucleoprotein complex consists of both protein and RNA components and performs a ribozyme-associated function in cells. In addition to processing tRNA RPP20's activity aids in the regulation of nuclear RNA and plays a part in overall gene expression by ensuring the proper processing and maturation of RNA molecules.
Pathways
Proteins and other molecular players interact closely with RPP20 in the RNA processing pathway. It also associates with pathways such as ribosome biogenesis and RNA transport. Related proteins include RPP38 and RPP14 which also participate within the RNase P complex and facilitate similar RNA processing activities. Their interactions stabilize the complex and enable effective catalytic action in RNA maturation processes.

General info
Function
Component of ribonuclease P, a ribonucleoprotein complex that generates mature tRNA molecules by cleaving their 5'-ends (PubMed : 30454648, PubMed : 9630247). Also a component of the MRP ribonuclease complex, which cleaves pre-rRNA sequences (PubMed : 28115465).
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the histone-like Alba family.
