TCEAL8 also known as Transcription Elongation Factor A (SII)-Like 8 is a nuclear protein with a molecular mass approximately 20 kDa. It is mainly expressed in the brain and various other tissues including lung and liver. TCEAL8 belongs to the transcription elongation factor S-II (TFIIS) family and plays a role in transcription regulation. This gene encodes a member of the protein family containing leucine-rich repeats.
Biological function summary

Transcription elongation factor TCEAL8 modulates transcription regulation influencing gene expression. This protein acts within the nuclear compartment and is believed to be a part of a larger protein complex involved in transcriptional control. TCEAL8 has potential interaction with other proteins that regulate transcription elongation reflecting its role in maintaining proper transcription processes.

Pathways

Transcription elongation factor TCEAL8 functions within pathways related to transcriptional regulation and RNA polymerase II elongation. It does not act alone but interacts with related proteins such as TFIIS. These interactions enhance the gene transcription accuracy and efficiency by assisting in the reduction of transcriptional arrests during elongation. TCEAL8's involvement in such pathways hints at its importance in dynamic gene expression changes in various conditions.

Abnormalities in TCEAL8 function link to neurological conditions and potentially some forms of cancer. Its expression in the brain suggests a role in maintaining proper neuronal functions and alterations can lead to or exacerbate neural disorders. Links between TCEAL8 and proteins such as NF-kB a known factor in cancer progression demonstrate its potential involvement in oncogenic processes making it of interest in disease research.
