Additional notes
Recombinant RAP74 protein is isolated from an E. coli strain that carries the coding sequence of the human RAP74 subunit of TFIIF under the control of T7 promoter; recombinant RAP30 protein is isolated from an E. coli strain that carries the coding sequence of the human RAP30 subunit of TFIIF under the control of T7 promoter; TFIIF is reconstituted by combining equimolar quantities of recombinant RAP30 and RAP74.
General info
Function
TFIIF is a general transcription initiation factor that binds to RNA polymerase II and helps to recruit it to the initiation complex in collaboration with TFIIB. It promotes transcription elongation.
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the TFIIF alpha subunit family.
Post-translational modifications
Phosphorylated on Ser and other residues by TAF1 and casein kinase II-like kinases.
