ThB also known as Thyroid Hormone Receptor Beta is a nuclear receptor with a molecular mass of approximately 55 kDa. ThB is mainly expressed in the liver kidney heart brain and skeletal muscle tissues. It functions as a transcription factor regulating gene expression by binding to thyroid hormone response elements in DNA upon thyroid hormone binding. As a nuclear receptor ThB plays an important role in controlling the transcription of target genes influenced by thyroid hormones.
Biological function summary

ThB modulates metabolism heart rate and body temperature by influencing genes related to these processes. It is not known to form part of any larger protein complexes but interacts directly with thyroid hormones such as thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). This interaction promotes gene expression changes mediating thyroid hormone effects on development differentiation and metabolic homeostasis.
