Biological function summary
TRBV5-4 interacts with other segments of the T-cell receptor complex to mediate T-cell specificity and response. It plays a role in recognizing peptide antigens presented by Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) molecules on antigen-presenting cells. The process of antigen recognition is fundamental for initiating T-cell-mediated immune responses. By doing so TRBV5-4 contributes to the adaptive immune system's ability to distinguish between self and non-self molecules and mount appropriate immune responses.
Pathways
The TRBV5-4's involvement is mainly in the T-cell receptor signaling pathway and the immune synapse formation. It serves as an important component in ensuring T-cell activation upon recognition of the antigen-MHC complex. The pathway involves interaction with several proteins including CD3 and ZAP70 which transduce the activation signal inside the T-cell. These interactions are important for successful signal propagation necessary for subsequent immune responses.
