Biological function summary
TRF41 plays an important role in mediating signal transduction related to cell survival apoptosis and immune responses. It associates as part of larger protein complexes that engage in downstream signaling influencing cellular fate and immune functions. In particular TRF41 interacts with other signaling intermediates amplifying or dampening cellular responses which are essential for maintaining homeostasis and effective immune function.
Pathways
TRF41 takes part in both NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways. In the NF-κB pathway it interacts with proteins such as TRADD and RIPK1 promoting the activation of transcription factors that drive inflammation and immune responses. Similarly in the MAPK pathway TRF41 connects with various MAP kinases influencing gene expression involved in stress responses. These interactions highlight its fundamental role in linking receptor activation to specific biological outcomes.

General info
Function
Terminal nucleotidyltransferase that catalyzes preferentially the transfer of ATP and GTP on RNA 3' poly(A) tail creating a heterogeneous 3' poly(A) tail leading to mRNAs stabilization by protecting mRNAs from active deadenylation (PubMed : 23376078, PubMed : 30026317). Also functions as a catalytic subunit of a TRAMP-like complex which has a poly(A) RNA polymerase activity and is involved in a post-transcriptional quality control mechanism. Polyadenylation with short oligo(A) tails is required for the degradative activity of the exosome on several of its nuclear RNA substrates. Has no terminal uridylyltransferase activity, and does not play a role in replication-dependent histone mRNA degradation via uridylation (PubMed : 23376078).

Belongs to the DNA polymerase type-B-like family.
