TRIM68 also known as RFP2 or RoRet-finger protein 2 is a member of the tripartite motif (TRIM) protein family. It has a molecular mass of approximately 53.1 kDa. The protein contains a RING-finger domain a B-box domain and a coiled-coil region which are characteristic of TRIM proteins. TRIM68 is mainly expressed in tissues like the testis and kidney. It functions as an E3 ubiquitin ligase facilitating the attachment of ubiquitin molecules to target proteins which often marks them for degradation by the proteasome.
Biological function summary

TRIM68 plays a significant role in immune signaling and other cellular processes. It regulates the androgen receptor activity which is critical for various physiological functions. Moreover TRIM68 can form complexes with other proteins to fulfill its biological roles. It helps modulate transcriptional activity and also participates in the cellular response to pathogens.

Pathways

Several important signaling cascades involve TRIM68. It is an important player in the androgen receptor signaling pathway influencing cellular growth and proliferation. TRIM68 also engages in the NF-kB signaling pathway which controls inflammation and immune responses and relates to proteins such as IκBα and RelA. Understanding these pathways is essential for comprehending how TRIM68 influences cellular processes.

TRIM68 has connections to prostate cancer and autoimmune diseases. Its dysregulation can influence androgen receptor activities contributing to prostate cancer progression. Additionally through its regulatory effects on NF-kB signaling TRIM68 is linked to autoimmune disorders. Associations with proteins like tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and androgen receptor highlight its significance in these diseases. Understanding TRIM68's impact on these conditions may provide insights for therapeutic developments.
