Biological function summary
The H3 influenza A subtype contributes to the seasonal influenza epidemics observed globally. Within the viral envelope HA acts alongside neuraminidase (NA) as part of the functional machinery required for viral replication and release from host cells. The HA a trimeric protein complex undergoes conformational changes which are critical to the virus infectivity and host range adaptation.
Pathways
The influenza A virus including the H3N2 subtype integrates into the host cell endocytic pathway upon cell entry. This viral host engagement is mediated by the HA protein interaction with cellular pathways that facilitate vesicular trafficking. During the virus life cycle the interaction between HA and the host immune response pathway is significant involving proteins such as M2 ion channel which helps in viral uncoating.
