Biological function summary
This protein influences food intake and energy homeostasis. NUCB2 is part of a signaling complex that modulates cellular responses to metabolic needs. It functions as a satiety molecule signaling when the body does not require additional food intake. The protein's regulatory role in appetite makes it important for maintaining body weight and energy utilization. NUCB2’s expression in specific brain areas particularly indicates its role in central nervous system pathways that control energy use.
Pathways
NUCB2 engages in vital neural circuits governing appetite and energy expenditure. It connects with the melanocortin and neuropeptide Y pathways which are central to maintaining energy balance and body weight. The interaction of NUCB2 with neuropeptide Y an essential regulator of hunger exemplifies how it modulates these pathways despite its main role not being in leptin signaling.

ab78707 is purified by using anion-exchange chromatography (DEAE sepharose resin) and gel-filtration chromatography (Sephacryl S-200) with 20mM Tris pH 7.5, 2mM EDTA.
General info
Function
Calcium-binding protein which may have a role in calcium homeostasis (PubMed : 10915798). Acts as a non-receptor guanine nucleotide exchange factor which binds to and activates guanine nucleotide-binding protein (G-protein) alpha subunit GNAI3 (By similarity).. Nesfatin-1. Anorexigenic peptide, seems to play an important role in hypothalamic pathways regulating food intake and energy homeostasis, acting in a leptin-independent manner. May also exert hypertensive roles and modulate blood pressure through directly acting on peripheral arterial resistance.
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the nucleobindin family.
