Functional Studies - Recombinant rat GDNF protein (Active) (AB281795)
Functional analysis of ab281795.
Fully biologically active determined by the dose dependent proliferation of SH-SY5Y cells. ED50 is ≤40.7 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 2.5 x 104 unit/mg.
Cell based assay testing is performed on the first lot of protein only and is provided as a reference for protein activity; subsequent lots of protein must pass all biophysical quality control parameters that meet the same parameters as the first lot.

General info
Function
Neurotrophic factor that enhances survival and morphological differentiation of dopaminergic neurons and increases their high-affinity dopamine uptake (PubMed : 10828539). Acts by binding to its coreceptor, GFRA1, leading to autophosphorylation and activation of the RET receptor (By similarity). May also modulate local neuronal effects in distal regions of the motor neuron (PubMed : 10828539). Involved in the development of the neural crest (By similarity).
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the TGF-beta family. GDNF subfamily.
