Ig alpha is the major immunoglobulin class in body secretions. It may serve both to defend against local infection and to prevent access of foreign antigens to the general immunologic system.

By immunoelectrophoresis and ELISA this antibody reacts specifically with mouse IgA. Cross reactivity
to mouse IgM, IgG1, IgG2a, IgG2b, IgG2c, IgG3 and IgE is undetectable.

Antiserum was solid phase adsorbed to ensure class specificity. This antibody was isolated by affinity chromatography using antigen coupled to agarose beads and conjugated to Biotin. Biotinylated antibody was demonstrated with avidin/peroxidase when coated on microtiter wells.
