Ig alpha is the major immunoglobulin class in body secretions. It may serve both to defend against local infection and to prevent access of foreign antigens to the general immunologic system.

The affinity purified antibodies react only with the IgA in serum and secretions by immunodiffusion and IEP techniques.
Constituents: 0.812% Sodium chloride, 0.194% Methyl mannoside
The resulting antiserum was solid-phase absorbed to make it IgA alpha chain specific. The anti IgA alpha antibodies were immunoaffinity purified off an IgA-containing immunoabsorbant.
