Binds lactose with high affinity. Strong inducer of T-cell apoptosis.
Tissue Specificity
Predominantly and highly expressed in the placenta where it is localized mainly in the syncytiotrophoblast and in the endothelia of fetal vessels. Also detected in the amnion and chorionic trophoblasts in fetal membranes.
