P2RX5
Domain
The second transmembrane domain and the conserved Asp-355 are essential for P2RX5 subunit assembly.
Function
Isoform 6
ATP-gated nonselective transmembrane cation channel permeable to potassium, sodium and calcium (PubMed:12761352). Unlike, other P2RX receptors, the P2X5 receptor is also permeable to chloride (PubMed:12761352). May play a supporting role in the inflammatory response (By similarity).
Isoform 1
Non-functional.
Sequence Similarities
Belongs to the P2X receptor family.
Tissue Specificity
Expressed at high levels in brain and immune system.
Cellular localization
- Isoform 6
- Cell membrane
- Multi-pass membrane protein
- The absence of the exon 10-encoded amino acids substantially results in subunit aggregation and retention in the cell cytoplasm.
