Pmp22
Developmental stage
Levels increase between embryonic day 21 (21 dpc) and postnatal day 1 (P1) and then gradually increase up to P15. There is a slight increase between P15 and adulthood.
Function
Might be involved in growth regulation, and in myelinization in the peripheral nervous system.
Post-translational modifications
Ubiquitinated by the DCX(DCAF13) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, leading to its degradation.
Sequence Similarities
Belongs to the PMP-22/EMP/MP20 family.
Tissue Specificity
Found exclusively in the peripheral nervous system. Present in both myelinating and nonmyelinating Schwann cells. Found in the tumors of Schwann cell lineage where axons are present (neurofibromas) but not where axons are absent (schwannomas).
Cellular localization
- Cell membrane
- Multi-pass membrane protein
