Relevance
The endogenous agonists for the mu-opiate receptors, endomorphin-1; Tyr-Pro-Trp-Phe-NH2, and endomorphin-2; Tyr-Pro-Phe-Phe-NH2 have been reported to show hypotensive activity and Ca2+ channel current inhibitory activity [Biochem. Biophys. Res. Commun.,235, 567 (1997)]. Although first identified in bovine brain, it is thought that endomorphin-1 and 2 are common mu-opiate agonists in mammals, including humans. Endomorphins may be useful for the study of pain perception together with some other biological functions in the body. -
