    ab15634 recognises an antigen on human continuous blood endothelial cells, which are fully differentiated and does not stain any other cell in tissues or in peripheral blood. On sinusoidal endothelial cells of the liver or lymphatic organs the antigen is inconsistently expressed or absent. On isolated cells, the antigen is found in variable numbers on freshly isolated umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Antigen expression on cultured HUVECs is dependent on the culture conditions. Best results were obtained (40-70% pos.) by daily renewal of FCS containing medium supplemented with endothelial cell conditioned supernatant whereas commercially available endothelial cell media apparently have no influence on the antigen expression.

    The antigen is an SDS sensitive 250kD surface protein as determined by gel filtration. The antigen is found in variable amounts on freshly isolated isolated HUVE cells. Antigen expression on cultured HUVEC is dependent on the culture conditions. Best results are obtained (40-70% pos.) by daily renewal of FCS containing medium supplemented with endothelial cell conditioned supernatant whereas commercial available specific endothelial cell media have no influence on the antigen expression.

      The endothelium is a single layer of cells lining various organs and cavities of the body, especially the blood vessels, heart, and lymphatic vessels.Endothelial cells line the entire circulatory system, from the heart to the smallest capillary. Endothelial cells are involved in many aspects of vascular biology, such as vasoconstriction and vasodilation, and hence the control of blood pressure; blood clotting (thrombosis & fibrinolysis); atherosclerosis; formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) and inflammation and swelling (oedema). Endothelial cells also control the passage of materials, and the transit of white blood cells, into and out of the bloodstream.

    Thank you for your inquiry. My colleagues from the lab where the antibody [1F10] ab15634 is produced said that this antibody shows a faint staining with lymphatic endothelial cells of the skin.
