Specificity
ab78165 recognizes CD34, a heavily glycosylated transmembrane protein, gp 105-120 kDa, expressed on immature human haemopoietic precursor cells, capillary endothelial cells and human myeloid cells in the following categories: subsets of CFU-GEMM and BFU-E, all CFU-GM, granulocyte precursors, monocytes, myeloid leukaemias. ab78165 recognizes the class II epitope showing resistance to neuraminidase enzyme cleavage. -

Function
Possible adhesion molecule with a role in early hematopoiesis by mediating the attachment of stem cells to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or directly to stromal cells. Could act as a scaffold for the attachment of lineage specific glycans, allowing stem cells to bind to lectins expressed by stromal cells or other marrow components. Presents carbohydrate ligands to selectins. -
Tissue specificity
Selectively expressed on hematopoietic progenitor cells and the small vessel endothelium of a variety of tissues. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the CD34 family. -
Developmental stage
On early hematopoietic progenitor cells. -
Post-translational
modificationsHighly glycosylated.
Phosphorylated on serine residues by PKC. -
Cellular localization
Membrane. - Information by UniProt
