Relevance
GK2 (glycerol kinase 2) is a key enzyme in the regulation of glycerol uptake and metabolism. It is a phosphotransferase enzyme involved in lipolysis and catalyzes the transfer of a phosphate from ATP to glycerol thus forming glycerol phosphate. This protein could be the product of a pseudogene. -
Cellular localization
Mitochondrion outer membrane; Peripheral membrane protein; Cytoplasmic side (By similarity). Cytoplasm (By similarity). In sperm the majority of the enzyme is bound to mitochondria. -
