This Ab seems to give identical rat/mouse brain positivity yet cortical astrocytes are more clearly demonstrated in my rat brain tissues. Also, the dilution factor is not so high as for mouse: I recommend testing between 1/10-25K, to find your optimal.
In the upper HP image of rat hippocampus, Astrocytes (by my morphological assessment) are clearly identified (red arrowheads indicate three). The blue arrowhead indicates a capillary in L/S that clearly shows two cells in very close proximity to the bv: their processes appear to be enveloping the capillary: by definition, these must be astrocytes?
In the lower image of the cortex (pyramidal cell layer), astrocytes and their processes are clearly seen (red arrowheads indicate three). The middle arrowhead shows two cell bodies in very close approximation: in anti GFAP-immunostained brains it seems to me that this is an occassional feature of Astrocytes.
Note that, in this grey matter, there appears to be no other possitivity with this Ab, unlike in white matter. In the latter, oligodendrocytes, imho, appear to be positive with this Ab.
