    The antibody is pre-absorbed by passing the antibodies through a column. The column has antigens (which the antibodies are not wanted to cross react with in the final sample) attached to the solid phase. Antibodies which show cross reactivity with these antigens will get left on the column. Antibodies which do not run out the bottom of the column. The resulting antibodies should therefore show reduced background staining due to them being more specific.
