Relevance
Hantaviruses are rodent-borne agents that cause severe human diseases. The viruses constitute a group of antigenetically and genetically related envelope viruses with a tripartite, negative-sense RNA genome. In northern, western and central Europe the Puumala virus (PUUV) is a predominant serotype. It is the etiological agent of nephropathia epidemica, a mild form of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. -
