Target

  • Relevance
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced by trophoblastic cells of the placenta beginning 10 to 12 days after conception. Maintenance of the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy requires the production of hCG, which binds to the corpus luteum of the ovary which is stimulated to produce progesterone which in turn maintains the secretory endometrium. hCG is present only in trace amounts in non pregnant urine and sera. It rises sharply during pregnancy. HCG is composed of two non identical, non covalently linked polypeptide chains designated as the a and b subunits. The a subunit of HCG is nearly identical to that of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). A germ cell tumor which is positive for cytokeratin, placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) and HCG but negative for EMA and AFP is probably a choriocarcinoma.

Question
Answer

Thank you very much for your phone call. I am sorry I lost your email address. As discussed please find attached the ELISA protocol. ELISA is basically of 3 types - Direct ELISA - Where conjugated (HRP) primary antibodies are used. - Indirect ELISA - where conjugated (HRP) secondary antibody against the target specific primary is used. - Sandwich ELISA - In this the antigen is sandwiched between 2 target specific antibodies called capture (coated in ELISA plate well) and detection antibody which could be used as conjugated or with conjugated secondary ab. Now coming to hcG target we have only 1 sheep polyclonal available in catalogue ab59038. This antibody is not conjugated so you can either use an anti sheep conjugated secondary antibody or you can use ab102884 conjugation kit to HRP conjugate this antibody. The requirement of conjugation will be based on the experiment planed and applications e.g. direct ELISA, iELISA or sELISA. We also have HRP conjugated primary antibodies e.g. ab1960 and ab30451. However the host for these ids is mouse and rabbit. In order to search for anti hcG antibodies I would suggest typing hCG in the search box provided on our home page at www.abcam.com. Once you hit the search button system will give you all the products related to hCG. You can also use ab102884 kit to HRP conjugate any antibody however please checks the BSA and sodium azide percentage in antibody solutions. These will interfere with the conjugation procedure so you will need antibodies without azide, BSA or with very low percentage of these. I hope this information will be helpful. Should you have any other question please do not hesitate to call.
