Properties

Applications

Our Abpromise guarantee covers the use of ab134790 in the following tested applications.

The application notes include recommended starting dilutions; optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.

Application Abreviews Notes
WB Use a concentration of 0.1 µg/ml. Predicted molecular weight: 9 kDa. Preliminary experiments gave an approx 28kDa band in Human Liver lysates after 0.1 ug/ml antibody staining. Please note that currently we cannot find an explanation in the literature for the band we observe given the calculated size of 9.41kDa according to NP_066998.1. The 28kDa band was successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide.
ELISA Use at an assay dependent dilution. Antibody detection limit dilution 1:16000
IHC-P Use a concentration of 3.75 µg/ml. Perform heat mediated antigen retrieval with citrate buffer pH 6 before commencing with IHC staining protocol.

Target

  • Function

Seems to act as a signaling molecule involved in the maintenance of iron homeostasis. Seems to be required in conjunction with HFE to regulate both intestinal iron absorption and iron storage in macrophages.
Has strong antimicrobial activity against E.coli ML35P N.cinerea and weaker against S.epidermidis, S.aureus and group b streptococcus bacteria. Active against the fungus C.albicans. No activity against P.aeruginosa.
  • Tissue specificity

Highest expression in liver and to a lesser extent in heart and brain. Low levels in lung, tonsils, salivary gland, trachea, prostate gland, adrenal gland and thyroid gland. Secreted into the urine.
  • Involvement in disease

    Hemochromatosis 2B
  • Sequence similarities

    Belongs to the hepcidin family.
  • Cellular localization

    Secreted.
